Donation to Burnaby Kidsport
|
As part of our role supporting the community of Burnaby, Burnaby Girls Soccer Club donated $1,100 to Burnaby Kidsport this May. This amount is the the funding that Burnaby Kidsport provided to sponsor girls playing in our club for the past 2006/2007 soccer season.
Here is some information about Burnaby Kidsport:
The Burnaby KidSport™ Fund, a local chapter of the not-for-profit organization, KidSport™ B.C., raises and allocates money for Burnaby children and youth from 5 to 18 years old, who would not otherwise be able to participate in organized sports due to financial barriers. Burnaby KidSport™, which is run by community volunteers, provides grants of up to $100 per qualifying child per year towards registration fees. The Burnaby Fund was founded in 2000 through the generous donation of $30,000 from the Keith and Betty Beedie Foundation.
In 2001 Burnaby KidSport™ began allocating money to Burnaby children. Since that time, Burnaby KidSport™ has allocated $44,520 to 522 children. This year we have enabled 94 children in Burnaby to participate in sports.
We Need Your Help You can really make a difference in one child’s life. To make sure Burnaby Kidsport™ does not have to turn away requests, a donation of $100 would mean a child can participate in sports. All donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt, and any financial donation is greatly appreciated. Volunteers are also needed. All proceeds go directly to supporting the child’s registration in the sport of their choice. For additional information, please call 604-294-7111.
If you would like to make a donation to Burnaby Kid- Sport™ send to:

BGSC Donation to Kenya Project
|
Keeping with the BGSC tradition of supporting soccer worldwide. Burnaby
Girls Soccer Club donated hundreds of uniforms, soccer gear and balls
to Kenya Project.
The website for the Kenya Project is http://www.thekenyaproject.com
This
summer, two groups of six are going to Kenya to donate the soccer
supplies to the village of Kanyawegi. Judy Sheane, BGSC equipment
manager, said donating soccer uniforms to a good cause is something the
club does on a regular basis.
"We do this all the time,"
Sheane said, adding that the club's used uniforms have been donated to
countries such as Cuba and Guatemala. "Every three years we change our
uniforms so that's where they go."
Sheane said most soccer clubs
buy $25 uniforms every year, whereas the Burnaby Girls Soccer Club
purchases better quality $50 uniforms every three years. That way, she
said, the uniforms last longer and can be donated to others who need
them.
"They can last for another few years," she said and added
that the people of the village will likely wear the uniforms when not
playing soccer.
